Target Beauty Box Review

Happy Tuesday, guys! It feels a little weird saying that, since I'm so used to posting on Mondays. Either way, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

It's been awhile since we did a beauty box review, so I thought I'd post the results of my Target Beauty Box from July for you! This was a really fun box and was incredibly reasonably priced at just $7 for seven samples. It was also a good mix of brands that I had been wanting to try, as well as new products from tried-and-true brands that I'm familiar with.

One thing I'm going to be doing a little differently with this review is giving each product an overall rating of 1-5 regarding whether I would buy it again. One would be the lowest, "no I absolutely would not pay for this" rating, and five would be the best. I'll also go over my pros and cons for the box as a whole, which I have done in past reviews.

So let's go over the pro's and con's of the entire box! I'm a bad-news-before-good-news kinda gal, so I'll list the cons first.

Cons:

  • No customization options or profile questionnaire to fill out to customize the box to your individual needs.

  • No subscription options. It is sold on a first come/first served basis, and it sells out fast!

  • Value of samples seems to fluctuate a bit from box to box.

Pros:

  • Super affordable.

  • Quick shipping.

  • Different boxes available in-store on special occasions.

  • Good quantity of samples.

  • Overall good quality products.

Now on to my individual samples!

Clean & Clear - Night Relaxing Jelly Sheet Mask

This was probably the most entertaining item in the box. It says that it is an "eye mask," but is more of like an upper face mask. It had these weird little flaps on the eye area, so it was a little awkward. Think of like, long-john underwear with the butt-flap, but for your face. Yeah.

I'm not going to lie, I'm not a huge fan of sheet masks because I feel like they're messy and difficult to get on, and many don't stay on very well. I'm much more of a gel or mud mask person. This mask wasn't much different; it actually felt like I was trying to unfold a jellyfish and stick it on my face.

That being said, once I finally got it on, it did adhere to my skin really well. It was also very cooling, which was SO nice during the summer. It had a nice de-puffing quality to it, so my face felt really soft, smooth, and relaxed afterwards. And although the application was a little difficult, the overall experience was really fun. It was super squishy and weird, so naturally it appealed to me, because I am also weird.

Tresemme - Repair and Protect Instant 7 Instant Recovery Mask

Unfortunately I can't link to this one on Target's website because it's not there anymore, but you can find it online at CVS. Which you should definitely do, because this stuff is awesome! My hair has been super dry with a ton of breakage due to bleach and heat styling, and this mask fixed it in one use, no joke. Not only that, but there was enough for at least two uses in this pack. For ladies with longer hair, this is enough to cover one use.

The formula is incredibly rich, so it adheres well to the hair, and you can tell the moisture is seeping into your strands. It also has a really nice scent. I left it on my hair for a good ten minutes just to be safe, and before I even dried my hair, I could already tell that it had done its job. I went through my usual routine and air-dried my hair overnight, and in the morning it was beyond soft. I was really impressed with the amount of repair this mask managed on my hair.

Up & Up - Ultra Vibrant Whitening Strips

These were pretty straightforward. They are Up&Up's version of white strips that are supposed to compare to Crest 3D White No Slip WhiteStrips. I received a three-day supply of these, which you are supposed to be able to notice a difference after. They did whiten my teeth a bit, but I did experience some sensitivity in my teeth and gums, as I do with most whitening strips. They did adhere really well to my top teeth, but not so much to my bottom teeth. My bottom teeth are a bit crooked though, so that's pretty normal for me when using products like this. Overall, if you don't experience sensitivity when using products like this, I would recommend them for a more affordable option.

SheaMoisture - African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Body Scrub

I was pretty excited to try this body scrub, but unfortunately, I didn't like it! I figured this might be a great option to prep my legs for shaving, but it really just stripped my skin of its moisture. It also had an almost slimy consistency that overpowered the exfoliants in the product, so it felt like I was just rubbing petroleum jelly and mud on my skin. Last but not least, the scent isn't awful, but it's not great, either. You can really smell the charcoal, and although there is tea tree oil in the formula, it lends nothing to the scent. So it pretty much just smells like dirt. Yeesh. Not a great experience, unfortunately.

Hask - Monoi Coconut Dry Shampoo

I love anything coconut, so I was stoked to see this in my box! My go-to dry shampoo is Dove's Detox & Purify, and I felt that I got similar results from Hask's dry shampoo, but with an extra nice coconut scent. It's a bit more expensive than Dove, but it is a more "natural" brand, as well as being cruelty-free, so I may end up switching!

Nivea - Silk Mousse Body Wash

This was another really fun product to try out. It is like a hybrid of body wash and shaving cream. When I first used it, the dispensing mechanism was a little wonky, so it kind of exploded out into my hand, which resulted in lots of foamy shower fun (say that five times fast). If I had to pick a cheesy tagline for this product it would be: "it's like a bubble bath in the shower!" Okay that's honestly just terrible marketing, but it's an accurate description!

It took a minute for the scent to grow on me, but it's actually really nice. It's like Barbasol mixed with the Warm Vanilla Sugar body wash from Bath and Body Works, but super mellow. It's hard to explain, but it does smell nice.

Last but not least, it does a great job at moisturizing skin! My skin felt so soft after washing with this stuff, and the bonus is that it doubles as a shaving foam. This really was just a super fun product to use, and works pretty well to give you a little extra luxury when you aren't able to get a full-on bubble bath.

Acure Organics - Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub

I've been wanting to try Acure for awhile now, so I was over the moon when I saw this in my box. I've also been looking for a new facial scrub, and I definitely found it in this product! Not only does it work well, but it gets bonus points for being cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, etc., etc....

The first thing I noticed about this scrub was the color. It's a deep green (almost black), and it has a slightly coarse consistency, where you can actually see pieces of sea kelp (much like the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask that I reviewed in this post). The texture might be slightly abrasive to those with extra-sensitive skin, but the lack of crappy chemicals didn't bother my sensitive skin at all, so it's definitely worth a try!

Thanks to its natural exfoliants, this scrub gives a good clean without stripping the skin, and leaves it incredibly soft. It also has a really nice scent - like a combination of citrus and kale and Fresh's Sugar Lip Polish. Apparently I'm all about describing weird smells today? Anyway, this stuff is definitely worth the cost if you want something that feels like a mini-spa day in about 3 minutes. I'll definitely be purchasing this one again!

Overall rating: 6!

That's it! I had a great time reviewing this box, altogether. I don't know if I'll automatically be purchasing every beauty box that Target puts out, but I'l definitely check them out to see what products they're featuring every month. Let's be real, for $7 a box, you can't beat it!

Let me know which product you're most eager to try!

Have a great weekend!

Much Love,

Michelle
